‘I wrote the music as though on a wave of happiness,’ Khachaturian enthused while working on it during the idyllic summer of 1940. ‘My whole being was in a state of joy, for I was awaiting the birth of my son. And this feeling, this love of life, was transmitted to the music’.
Sergey Rachmaninov described music as nonverbal poetry. His sublime Second Symphony is unforgettable both for its energy and its poignancy. Guest conductor Stanislav Kochanovsky and Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra interpret this romantic masterpiece.
