The music of pain: Kochanovsky and the Dresden Philharmonic
"Embarking on its sixth UK tour, the orchestra was in the very capable hands of Stanislav Kochanovsky. Together with the rising star violinist Maria loudenitch they fashioned an eminently satisfying evening's entertainment. [...]
Kochanovsky didn't unnecessarily emote in his reading of Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 6 in B minor. Dispensing with a baton, as he had done for the opening Prelude, he shaped the four movements with a sure touch, hardly veering from each basic tempo that he set and resisting any inclination to micro-manage the detail. His understanding of the symphonic architecture meant that the climaxes in the outer movements were properly prepared with a satisfying emotional release."
